1000th Upload! Plane Spotting in the Snow – Watching Airplanes O’Hare International AirportHere it is. The opportunity. Two hands. No tripod. Feet aligned perpendicular to flight path.
Camera on. Centered. Level…. Breathe in. Breathe out. Relax. Relax. No tension in your arms. No tension. Only chill. Hold the camera lightly. Time stands still. Feel the wind. Wait for it. Let it come into view. Let the airplane establish the movement. Only follow. Focus.

Press record. Don’t breathe. Move as one with the airplane. Stay centered… Don’t rush the shot. Slowly. Slowly. Let it happen. Fly with the airplane. Forget the ground, match those wings… Match the speed. Smoothly. Anticipate that speed, steady as she flies… Match that line. Level if you can… View in if it feels good… Easy… easy. Stay centered. Hang on. A little longer… Stop. Breathe.

Good. Repeat.

It’s been 1000 YouTube uploads. To summarize it succinctly is a challenge as I have been very fortunate to have met so wonderful many people and had so many wonderful experiences along the way. Behind every video is a story. Some long, some short, some disappointing and exhilarating. For every great catch there is usually a miss or a missed opportunity and for every hour of great film there is usually another few hours of mistakes but you must never let it get you down…such is this wonderful game we call “planespotting” and I wouldn’t have any other hobby. The thrill of the chase, the joy of catching that tail number in great light in a perfect shot you had hoped for, it’s all worth it and makes the search that much more exciting and satisfying when you actually score. All this hard work to celebrate one of mankind’s truly great achievements … flight. I only hope the next thousand are as enjoyable and fulfilling as these last thousand have been. Hopefully, you’ve had fun as you been along for this joyride with me. Glad to have you along with!
