Antonov Airlines Antonov An-124-100 Departure @ Toronto Pearson Int’l January 19, 2016IN THIS VIDEO: Hello everyone! Here is my first video of 2016. And what better way to start it off then a rare. So this was the Antonov Airlines Antonov An-124-100 visiting Toronto for the weekend, arriving on Friday from the Boeing Field and then taking off on Tuesday to Doncaster. I did catch the landing, for those wondering, but that will be put up later.

So, we went to catch the departure that was scheduled for 0900L but then was changed to 1520L on Saturday. So by the time we got to the Infield at Gate 509 where he was parked, the aircraft had ZERO movement around it, so we knew it would be dark by the time he left. And sure enough, he filed shortly for a 2010L departure. So we waited for the clearance and then the push back. As you can see in the video, Swissport did have some difficulties with the push back before they were able to tow the plane out facing east. From there the Antonov did the pre-engine ignition checklists, the tow bar was put in the back via the two cranes at the back doors which then closed, the engines were started and then the after-engine ignition checklist took place. All in 30min before he requested taxi to RWY 23 via Echo, Hotel and Quebec for a full length departure and 4 min run up. A big shock to everyone else who thought he was going to de-ice but they ended up going to take-off instead.

So we floored it to RWY 23 with enough time to spare since there were still 3 arrivals on RWY 23 and he was still holding short. Since I already got a shot of the Antonov An-124-100 taking off from RWY 23 on Derry Rd, I did it from Airport Rd this time on the Parking Garage. Filmed the taxi, line-up and then the take-off which he used about 90% of the RWY leaving a snow-nado on departure. Phenomenal!
