K13 Glider Soaring Flight Under Clouds – Winch Launch and Climb – Thermalling

These guys couldn’t get luckier! Just before releasing from the cable they were caught in a weak thermal which kept getting stronger as they were sticking with it… Eventually it developed into a strong updraught with a vertical speed of more than 1000 feet per minute occasionally, and with the Chief Flight Instructor of the Cyprus Gliding Group flying at the back they were able to take the glider up to a few hundred feet below our maximum allowed altitude. In order not to exceed this altitude, and in order not to fly into clouds, they had to raise the airbrakes to maintain altitude or descend for a bit. A very fun flight in great weather!
