Worlds largest logistics company to increase facilities at Auckland Airport

aviation_newsDHL Supply Chain New Zealand, a division of the largest logistics company in the world, is set to locate a third facility at the Auckland Airport Business District.

The recently signed agreement will see DHL lease its third warehouse and office facility within The District, which they will officially move into in June next year.

DHL forms part of Deutsche Post DHL’s supply chain division, the world’s largest logistics company, employing approximately 130,000 people and with operations in every continent. Deutsche Post DHL itself has approximately 470,000 employees in over 220 countries and in 2010 it generated revenues of €51.48 billion with a profit of €1.16 billion.

Peter Alexander, Auckland Airport’s general manager property, says this decision by DHL continues the trend of world class freight and logistics locating to The District.

“We are thrilled that DHL has decided to locate their latest Auckland warehouse in The District”, says Mr Alexander. “We are currently experiencing a spate of global companies choosing to locate to our Business District, which reflects the international trends of businesses basing themselves in close proximity to transport and other value creation activities.”

“The connectivity that The District provides, combined with the scale of amenities and the security and flexibility on offer here, means that international and local businesses alike are finding that locating to this area is an attractive proposition,” finishes Mr Alexander.

The new purpose designed and built 12,000sqm facility will be the tenth warehouse and office facility located in The Landing – a 120 hectare precinct that Auckland Airport is developing into a world class industrial business park.

Matt Casbolt, DHL Supply Chain NZ Managing Director, says, “DHL already has two facilities at Auckland Airport. The decision to locate a third at The District was made simpler with Auckland Airport able to provide us with a site that has the capacity to not only accommodate our immediate warehousing needs, but also our future expansion aspirations.”
