Another cargo record at Chopin Airport

aviation_newsChopin Airport handled over 23,000 tonnes of cargo in the first half of 2013, an 8.5% increase on the corresponding period last year and yet another record cargo figure for the airport.

The Warsaw airport handled a total of 23,100 tonnes of freight in the first six months of 2013, including 22,700 tonnes internationally (up 8.8%) and 308 tonnes domestically (down 5.1%), with imports (13,300 t) exceeding exports (9,400 t). The volume of mail handled stood at 7,400 tonnes.

The most popular cargo destinations to/from Warsaw included: Cologne (4,100 t), Leipzig (2,900 t), Chicago (1,500 t), Dubai (1,400 t) and New York (1,300 t). The biggest cargo carriers were: LOT Polish Airlines (7,300 t), UPS Airlines (5,100 t), European Air Transport (2,900 t), Emirates Airlines (1,400 t) and Air Contractors (1,050 t).

2012 was the airport’s busiest year ever in terms of cargo volumes, with almost 45,000 tonnes handled.

Goods most commonly shipped include industrial spare parts and consumables, medicines, books and magazines.
