The record passenger numbers continued to be largely driven by the operation of two low-cost airlines, Ryanair and Wizz Air, which previously flew out of Modlin Airport. In the period from 22 December 2012, i.e. when they moved flights to Chopin Airport, to 30 June 2013, the two carriers alone carried a total of 1,226,931 passengers: Ryanair – 731,411 and Wizz Air – 495,520.
Aircraft movements totalled 61,600 in the first half of 2013, 2.1% more than in the corresponding period last year.
June 2013 saw a slight drop in passenger figures, with 1,075,933 passengers handled, a 0.2 fall on the same month last year, which was Chopin Airport’s busiest June ever thanks to the 2012 UEFA European Football Championship co-hosted by Poland and Ukraine.
