An instructor is any division member who wishes to assist others in training to prepare for an exam, a certain position, GCA applicants, anyone who wants to move one rank above his/her current rank or anyone who wants to control a position with an FRA above his or her rating.
Upon a successful application, the trainer will have FGVAO Instructor in his or her member profile and be a “Certified FGVAO Instructor” to bear the _TA designation in their callsign. (ex. KJFK_TA if training someone on KJFK_TWR).
Minimum Requirements
- Member of the United States Division in good standings
- Has knowledge of the ATC phraseology and good knowledge of Air Traffic Controlling
- At least 16 years of age at the time of application
- Able to speak English fluently
Job Tasks
As a trainer, you are a representative of not only the US Training Department, but also the FGVAO Training Department. You will be expected to maintain a constant online presence to maintain your Trainer certification and behave in a respectful and polite manner. Any derogatory remarks in your suspension history might risk you losing your certification as members will be looking up to trainers as role models in our division.
Besides your public image, you will be required to:
- Attend training department staff meetings
- Answer at least 25% of the training requests
- Assist the classrooms by answering questions in the chat (if requested)
- Assist new members and make sure those online major airports as ATC are familiar with the local procedures
You will be able to log onto OpenRadar with a _TA designation in your callsign if training another member. For example, if an AS2 wants training as KPHL_APP, which has an FRA of AS3, he can still login as KPHL_APP as long as you are logged in at the same time as KPHL_TA with the same frequency and on the same voice channel.
