Zurich Airport: February 2013 shows decreased air traffic movements and passengers loss

Traffic Figures: 1,644,507 passengers were handled at Zurich Airport during February 2013, a loss of 2.9% versus February 2012. The year to date passenger growth stands at -1.7%.

1,644,507 passengers were handled at Zurich Airport during February 2013, a loss of 2.9% versus February 2012. The year to date passenger growth stands at -1.7%.

O&D or local passengers (originating or departing from Zurich) decreased by 0.7% to 1,066,126 compared to previous February (YTD -0.9%). Transfer passengers decreased by 6.9% to 573,074 in February (YTD -3.0%). The transfer rate which was at 36.4% last February is currently at 34.9% (YTD 36.0%).

Air traffic movements (ATM’s) decreased by 7.7% to 18,522 in February versus previous year (YTD -5.3%). The decrease divides into a decrease of 6.2% for airlines (YTD -4.3%) and a decrease of 17.5% for general aviation (YTD -11.7%).

The average passenger per movement figure (airline passengers only) currently is at 100.4 (97.1 previous year) or 97.6 YTD (95.1 previous year). The average seat load factor saw an increase of 1.0 percentage points to 69.9% (YTD 68.5%).

Commercial Activities

Total turnover (net sales to consumers) during February was CHF 36.4m (+0.1% versus previous year). Turnover per departing passenger in February was CHF 44.3, which is 3.1 percent higher than last year. Year to date February, total turnover saw an increase of 1.7% to CHF 75.8m and turnover per departing passenger increased by 3.5% to CHF 45.3.
