CAE customizes helicopter pilot training curricula for offshore oil and gas operations
CAE announced at the Helicopter Association International (HAI) Heli-Expo conference that it has significantly enhanced pilot training for helicopter operators serving the oil and gas market, customizing aircraft training curricula for offshore operations.
Working with partner CHC Helicopters, CAE subject matter experts have integrated offshore elements of standard operating procedures, checklists and other operational requirements not typically taught in initial and recurrent pilot training.
The customization thus far includes pilot training programs for Eurocopter AS332L, L1, L2, and EC225 Super Puma models, as well as the Sikorsky S76C+, S76C++ and S92 models.
“CAE has raised the bar on tailored training for offshore operations,” said Brian Clegg, VP Resources and Operations, CHC Global Operations. “And in addition to our original locations serving Canada and the North Sea, CAE is expanding its footprint to support our crews in South America and Asia Pacific. They are the only training company building offshore role training capacity to support a global operation such as ours.”
“The CHC-CAE training model is the most comprehensive in the industry with both leading technology and instructional methodology,” said Jeff Roberts, CAE Group President, Civil Simulation Products, Training and Services. “Through the curricula, CAE 3000 Series full-flight simulators, and highly experienced instructors, we enable helicopter operators to enhance safety and operational efficiency every day.”
CAE acquired CHC’s training resources two years ago. Under the long-term partnership agreement, CAE trains about 2,000 CHC pilots and maintenance engineers annually. Training is also provided to third-party operators.
