Record Summer Traffic At Malta Airport
In his address, Mr Klaushofer said this summer proved to be a record one for Malta Airport. “The impressive results achieved in the seat load factor is good news for us, but most of all for our airline clients – growing from 73% to 81% in less than a decade.
This means that their operation to and from Malta is a successful one. It is important that all partners obtain a positive result as it means that the investment by all concerned is reaping the desired effect.”
The CEO also referred to the crucial importance of the shoulder months as the area for potential growth; and consequently, Malta Airport’s marketing initiatives as a direct investment in this regard. “For the second year running, this winter schedule we are waiving all landing fees on all scheduled passenger traffic to continue incentivising airlines to keep their operation to and from Malta all year round,” he added.
In the context of the seasonality, Mr Klaushofer insisted that the Valletta 2018 European City of Culture as a golden opportunity to promote Malta as a destination for history and culture.
He concluded his short intervention by announcing that the Company was updating its forecast for the year, to an increase of approximately 3%, which means that Malta Airport will be reaching a record of over 3.6 million passengers for 2012.
In a short presentation, Chief Commercial Officer Alan Borg have an overview of the results for the first 10 months of the year, in terms of passenger movements, which show an increase of 3.7% when compared to the same period last year, totalling 3,245,545 passenger movements. In October, passenger movements reached 348,711, i.e. the highest number ever registered in this month, with an increase of 0.6%.
