DAA Welcomes New Shannon-Chicago Route

Dublin Airport Authority (DAA) welcomes today’s announcement by United Continental Holdings that United Airlines will operate a new Shannon-Chicago service next summer.

The new United service will operate from United’s O’Hare International hub in Chicago to Shannon five times per week from early June until the end of August. The new summer service to Chicago will compliment United’s existing year-round service from Shannon to Newark, New Jersey.

We are thrilled that United has decided to add another service at Shannon,” said DAA’s Director of Strategy, Vincent Harrison. “DAA and Shannon Airport will work closely with United and other stakeholders to promote this new route on both sides of the Atlantic,” he added. “This service is particularly welcome as it will add extra capacity in 2013 when Ireland hosts The Gathering,” Mr Harrison said.

The new Shannon-Chicago service will be United’s fourth route into the Republic of Ireland, as it already operates successful services from Dublin to Newark and Washington DC and from Shannon to Newark.

The new Chicago service will operate daily from Shannon except Wednesday and Thursday from June 7 to August 27, 2013. United will operate the route with a Boeing 757-200 aircraft in a 169-seat configuration with 16 flat-bed seats in BusinessFirst® and 153 seats in Economy, including 45 Economy Plus seats with extra legroom and increased personal space.

The Shannon-Chicago flight, UA67, will depart Shannon at 11:00 arriving in Chicago at 13:05 the same day. The return flight, UA66, will depart Chicago at 18.00, arriving in Shannon at 7:30 the following day. A United spokesman said the flights were “conveniently timed” to provide inbound and outbound connections beyond Chicago to more than 125 destinations across North, Central and South America and the Caribbean.
