Airservices: New visual navigation and terminal area charts released
The introduction of the VNCs, covering the Riverina district and Tasmania, has resulted in a small coverage change to the Melbourne VNC to enable continual coverage from West Wyalong, central NSW, through to the southern tip of Tasmania.
“The new visual charts will enable VFR pilots to fly from Cooktown, in northern Queensland, to Hobart using VNCs for the entire flight,” said Airservices Executive General Manager Air Traffic Control Jason Harfield.
Airservices now has a total of 15 VNCs available – almost double what was available two years ago.
In addition, new TACs for Broome and Karratha airports are now available.
“The TACs will compliment the recent introduction of tower services at both airports and provide a better service for the increased level of IFR aircraft operating in the north-west region,” Mr Harfield.
The new charts see the existing TAC layout modified into three distinct geographical regions with each TAC covering a specific region.
The revised layout will be: TAC 1/2 – Queensland and Northern Territory, TAC 3/4 – New South Wales, Victoria and Tasmania, and TAC 5/6 – South Australia and Western Australia.
