Malta International Airport: Increase in passenger movements levelling out
In November, aircraft movements decreased by 10.4% over the corresponding period last year, whilst the average seat load factor registered a considerable increase of 7.2 percentage points, reaching 75.9% – up from the 68.7% registered in November 2010. The maximum take-off weight (MTOW) went down by 8% reaching 143,201 tonnes, whilst cargo and mail was 8.2% lower than that recorded during the same month in 2010.
The German, French and UK markets grew in November, by 21.7%, 14.5% and 6.8% respectively, whereas Belgium appears in the top five markets for the first time, with a considerable increase of 9.8%. Italy was the only main market to register a drop, which when compared to the same month last year went down by 10.6%.
The results for the first eleven months of the year, in terms of passenger movements, therefore show an increase of 6.9% when compared to the same period last year, totalling 3,332,993 passenger movements. This positive result was mainly brought about by the increase in the average seat load factor of 5.2 percentage points which countered the decrease of 0.4% in the seat capacity when compared to those registered during the same period last year.
