Swissport invests more than 5 million euro in its activities at Liege Airport
leading providers of ground services to the aviation sector, has signed an
important financial agreement which enables it to develop its activities at Liege
Airport in the long term.
The agreement treats three elements:
1. The expansion of the current cargo warehouse’s surface, located in the
south zone (from 3,900 m² to 6,500 m²);
2. The renting of a new warehouse with a surface of 6.200 m² in the north
zone, which was recently constructed by Liege Airport Business Park, a
subsidiary of Liege Airport;
3. An investment amounting to 5.2 million euro in new equipment among
which facilities with climate control for storage and treatment of
temperature-sensitive goods.
The surface useable for cargo handling increases from 3,900 m² to 12,700 m².
Furthermore, Swissport has recently acquired the licenses from the Walloon
authorities allowing it to provide ground-handling services on the runway, both
of cargo and passengers. Besides that, Swissport could already perform cargo
handling in warehouses.
Luc Partoune, General Director at Liege Airport, is very pleased with these
developments: “Our airport becomes increasingly important every year and our
agreement with such a reliable partner as Swissport supports this. These
mutual investments provide a strong signal for the future growth of the airport
and for an ever better service. Liege Airport Business Park has, moreover,
decided to invest in a new warehouse with a supplementary surface of more
than 6,000 m² following the agreement”.
Patrick Minsart, General Manager Swissport Belgium, is also positive about this
agreement: “These investments show that Swissport has the intention to grow
at and with Liege Airport. We are convinced that with can contribute to the
successes of our client airline companies with our new working methods and
the latest technology. Moreover, our increased capacity at the airport thanks to
the new warehouse will relieve our current saturated warehouse and it will
create new business opportunities for both parties”.
