LOT fleet in good technical condition

The condition of the aircraft belonging to LOT Polish Airlines and questions related to maintenance were presented today during a press meeting at the airline’s Maintenance Headquarters.

The meeting was attended by representatives of the Board of LOT Polish Airlines with LOT’s CEO Marcin Piróg at its head, as well as representatives of LOT AMS, which services the aircraft of the Polish carrier.

During the presentation, the condition of all of LOT’s aircraft was discussed in detail, and key information concerning air carriage operations was provided.

According to statistics presented, the average age of the Embraer 170/175/190 aircraft that make up the core of LOT’s fleet for European and Middle East connections is four and a half years.

The average age of the largest aircraft model, the Boeing 767, is 18 years. The average age of the entire LOT Polish Airlines fleet (not including ATRs belonging to the Eurolot company) is 8.5 years, which corresponds to the standard of so-called traditional airlines around the world.

LOT aircraft undergo regular maintenance reviews according to the operations manual published by their manufacturers. They are also subject to ongoing oversight and inspections by the Civil Aviation Office.

The Polish air carrier carries out on average 240 operations a day during the summer season and about 210 during the winter season.

Punctuality indicators for LOT are improving – over the past eight months of this year they equalled 83%, in comparison to 79% in 2010, and regularity was 98% in comparison to 96% in 2010. These results are at an average level for European carriers that are members of the AEA (Association of European Air Carriers).

LOT Polish Airlines’ expenses allocated for aircraft maintenance currently constitute 15% of operating costs (not including fuel costs) and have remained at that level for years.

In 2010, 368 million PLN were allocated for maintenance, and this year those costs are projected to be at a level of 341 million PLN
