FS2004 Scenery–Naval Air Station Weeksville, North Carolina (NC). Although the era of giant Naval dirigibles may have ended with the crash of the U.S.S. Macon, blimps were still very popular with all nations. The blimps’ strongest card was its great endurance and this made it ideal for anti-submarine patrols during wartime. As the clouds darkened over Europe, the United states began an ambition base-building program to support a bi-coastal fleet of blimps. Naval Air Station Weeksville was one of these ten strategically placed stations. Ranging from Norfolk to Cape Hatteras her blimps scoured the seas for hostiles as well as downed airmen.
